My experience with Tom’s Automotive was smooth and easy. I walked in with an issue with my car and by the end of the day it was fixed. They went out of their way to squeeze me in on a day when they were short-handed. They were friendly and helpful. I took off one star because they refilled my coolant (and charged me for it) without my permission. I was always taught I could just refill with water when it was a little below the cool full line. They also told me I needed a transmission fluid flush urgently, but I checked it when I got home and it wasn’t very dirty. I admittedly don’t know much about cars and engines, but I felt I was getting taken advantage of a little because of my minimal knowledge.

We apologize that you felt taken advantage of, that was never our intention. Our job is to help educate you so you can make the proper decisions for your vehicle. If you are ever unsure we are happy to answer any questions you may have. Your cooling system, yes you can top it off with water but it can dilute the system and not provide the proper protection that is required. Ideally you want a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. We wanted to be sure it was at the proper level and freeze protection. We use a rating scale of 1-5, with 5 being the worst. Your transmission fluid was rated at a 4. Your particular type of vehicle is known to have transmission issues and it is critical to keep the fluid clean to prolong the life of the transmission. Gave me a lot of what I do want. Timely, efficient and highly technically capable work. Have you looked under the hood of a car lately? It's basically a computer with a few hundred horsepower and wheels attached to it as a peripheral to operate in a real physical world under a myriad of conditions. Point and click time frames and simplicity are not going to maintain or repair a vehicle. It takes a lot of continuing education and expertise to keep up with continually advancing technology and Tom's Automotive has it.

The friendly staff are patient and respectful to this non-mechanical car owner. That the shop is environmentally sensative is an added plus.
